 Founded in 1957，Suzhou Institute of Measurement and Testing Technology is a professional institute established by the Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision of Suzhou，Jiangsu Province for verifying，calibrating and measuring technologies.
Currently，the total staff of our institute reaches 176，including 80 professional technicians(68 are at intermediate or senior level)．The total assets of measuring instruments and equipments reach RMB 20,290,000，and the construction area is 3,430 square meters，in which the laboratory(thermostatic chamber)reaches 1,672 square meters.
Our institute has 864 instruments and equipments，in which 48 are large or medium—sized measuring instruments．All these measuring equipments are regularly maintained，tested and calibrated，so as to ensure they are in conformity to the requirements of this project for resource allocation．
So far，our institute has established a wide range of recognized measuring standards for 140 items of 10 categories, including length，temperature，mechanics(weights and measures)，electromagnetism ，wireless，temporal frequency，optics，physical chemistry，radiation，medical treatment apparatus，etc．
Verified by the Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau of Jiangsu Province，our institute has been issued with the No.(2003)1 005 Certificate of Authorization for Legal Measurement Examination＆Determination Agencies of the People’s Republic of China，thus has the authorization to carry out magnitude transmission and tracing within the permitted scope as well as to evaluate 56 measuring instruments in 7 categories．
Issued with No.CNAS L0158 Certificate，our institute has been recognized and authorized by the CNAS to calibrate or check 305 items in 7 categories，including length，temperature，mechanics，electromagnetism，wireless，temporal frequency，physical chemistry，etc．
The legal responsibility of our institute is to(1)provide technical guarantee for implementation of Metrology Law；(2)unify the magnitude adopted in Suzhou City(including 5 county—level cities)；(3)research and establish the primary measurement standards and public measurement standards，and carry out magnitude transmission；(4)carry out compulsory verification，other measurement verification，calibration and testing activities；(5)evaluate new measuring instrument models appointed by administrative measurement authorities；(6)conduct quality inspection or measuring＆verifying activities on behalf of administrative measurement authorities；f7)carry out scientific＆technological achievement verifying activities entrusted by relevant departments or enterprises．
Thanks for the joint efforts of all employees，the institute has created great achievements and established a high social reputation．In January，2005，the institute was awarded the honorary title of Excellent Unit in Quality＆Technology Supervision System of Jiangsu Province for 2003 to 2004，and in 2006，it was again awarded the honorary title of Civilized Unit of Quality＆Technology Supervision System of Jiangsu Province for 2004 to 2005．
